Databases and storage
The database is your business's memory. If it is badly modelled, everything else pays for it: slow queries, reports that take minutes and backups nobody has ever tested restoring.
What I do
- Modelling and redesign — schemas that reflect your real business, not the one from the template that happened to be around.
- Query optimization — indexes, execution plans and rewriting slow queries in MySQL/MariaDB and PostgreSQL.
- Migrations — move data and structures to a new schema or engine without losing a single record and with a rollback plan.
- Replication and availability — read replicas, failover and tested backup strategies.
- Various engines — MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL and MongoDB depending on the case: relational where there are rules, document where there is flexibility.
The criterion
A backup that has not been restored does not exist. Every deployment includes its restore test and a basic monitor: size, growth and slow queries in sight.
